How Does Ayurveda Defines Erectile Dysfunction?

Erectile Dysfunction (ED), also known as male impotency, is a sexual disorder characterized by a male's inability to maintain or withhold an erection during sexual intercourse. It is a common problem these days, affecting nearly 40% of the male population, and many men over the age of 40 are affected.

Ayurvedic medicine Erectile Dysfunction is known as 'Klaibya,' and it is widely assumed that ED can also occur as a result of an excessive intake of incompatible foods that are high in salt, and sugar, or are sour or heavy. Because a healthy mind is essential during physical activity, an imbalance in the Vata doshas is important. Increased Vata doshas can cause jealousy, fear, confusion, intoxication, anger, and other negative emotions, which can eventually cause excessive palpitation and sweating during physical activity and cause one to lose interest in the partner.

Jarasambhavaj Klaibya

This Klaibya type occurs naturally in old age. Because all of the Rasadi Dhatus have undergone Dhatu Kshaya in old age (the process of depletion). Furthermore, the Shukra Dhatu is depleted, which eventually leads to Shukra-Kashya. If that person does not consume any Vrishya Aahara (aphrodisiac diet) in his daily routine diet during this period, Shukra Dhatu will not be nourished. Balakshaya (weakness), Veeryakshaya, and Indriya Balakshaya are the outcomes (loss of strength of the sense organs). In this state, if he engages in strenuous and rapid activity, he will experience Jarajanya Klaibya. The person becomes despicable, looks malnourished, and loses their complexion.

Sadhyaasadhyata Klaibya

According to Acharya Charaka, Sadhyaasadhyata  Klaibya is caused by Dhwajabhanga (Impotence), Janmjat(Congenital), and Kshayajanya (Klaibya is Asadhya incurable). Klaibya caused by amputation of the penis or testicles is also considered incurable.
