The biggest myth about slow Ayurveda bursted!

People today are becoming more and more aware of the importance of a healthy lifestyle. The health industry is filled with people who try to convince you of leading your life in a certain way but you have to choose whether that way of living healthy is really benefiting you or not. On national Ayurveda day today, let us tell you why we promote Ayurveda and consider it the best form of medicine. We are also going to burst some myths today so brace yourselves and keep reading.

One of the most important reasons why Ayurveda has a mass following is the fact that people consider it to be a safe as well as effective alternative to western biomedicine. People are aware that most chemicals have massive side effects, therefore they are slowly gravitating towards other ways to heal and stay healthy.

Ayurvedic medicine is an indigenous system of medicine in which the remedies that are used are quite simple in nature, and the ingredients can be found in almost any household.

What is Ayurveda ?

Ayurvedic medicine or Ayurveda is one of the world's oldest healing systems. It was developed more than 3,000 years ago in India.

Ayurveda is based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance that is striked between the mind, body, and spirit. Its main goal is to "promote good health" and not just to fight the concerned disease. But treatments could be geared towards specific health problems.

Ayurvedic practitioners believe that everything in the universe, whether dead or alive, is connected. If your mind, body, and spirit are in harmony with the universe, you will have good health. But if anything disrupts this balance, you get sick. Among the things that can upset this balance are genetic or birth defects, injuries, climate and seasonal change, age, and your emotions.

According to Ayurveda, every person is made of five basic elements found in the universe. These are space, air, fire, water, and earth.

These five elements combine in the human body to form three life forces or energies, called "Doshas". These dishes basically control how your body works. They are Vata dosha (space and air); Pitta dosha (fire and water); and Kapha dosha (water and earth).

Everyone inherits a unique mix of the three doshas. But one is usually stronger than the others. Each one controls a different body function. It is believed that your chances of getting a health issue is linked to the balance of your doshas.

Let us delve deeper and tell you more about the three doshas -

Vata Dosha -

Those who practice Ayurveda believe this is the most powerful of the three doshas. This is because it controls the very basic body functions like how cells divide. It also controls your mind, breathing, blood flow, heart function, and ability to get rid of waste through your intestines.

Things that can disrupt it are - eating again too soon after a meal, fear, grief, and staying up too late at night.

If vata dosha is your main life force, you are more likely to develop conditions like anxiety, asthma, heart disease, skin problems, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Pitta Dosha -

This energy controls your digestion, metabolism, and certain hormones that are linked to your appetite.

Things that can disrupt it are eating sour or spicy foods and spending too much time in the sun.

If this is your main life force, you are more likely to develop conditions like Crohn’s disease, heart disease, high blood pressure, and infections.

Kapha Dosha -

This life force controls muscle growth, body strength and stability, weight, and your immune system.

You can disrupt it by sleeping during the day, eating too many sweet foods, and eating or drinking things that contain too much salt or water.

If this is your main life energy, then you may develop asthma and other breathing disorders, cancer, diabetes, nausea after eating, and obesity.

The key is to strike a balance -

Sweet, sour, and salty foods pacify Vata. Sweet, pungent, and bitter foods decrease Pitta. Pungent, bitter, and astringent foods pacify Kapha.

The different tastes affect dosha. Intelligent consumption is what it takes to ensure Vatta-Pitta-Kapha balance. The slightest change in the scales will result in illness.

Bursting myths -

The science of Ayurveda has often been associated with myths and misconceptions. People do not always have the proper awareness about ayurvedic therapies as they are an ancient science of life.

One of the most common myths is that Ayurvedic treatments and therapies take time to treat an illness. It is this myth that keeps people away from seeking the help of Ayurvedic therapies.

Let’s shed some light on the facts now -

Focuses on The Root Cause -

The principle of Ayurveda believes in diagnosing the cause of the problem and uprooting the problem from its very roots. Modern medicines, on the other hand, aim for symptomatic relief, meaning they usually treat just the symptoms of the illness, not the cause.

Customized To Patient’s Requirement -

The ayurvedic physician recommends the treatment depending on the patient’s strength, immunity and the morbidity. Moreover, a few procedures are required to act slowly and steadily to ensure that during the alleviation of the disease, other organs are not damaged.

Not All Treatments Are Slow And Steady -

In the ‘Phala Sruthi’, Ayurvedic Acharyas have mentioned the exact number of days required for the medication or treatment to show effect.

Seeing the fact that no two individuals are exactly the same, the dosage and timing of Ayurvedic medicines will also vary between different individuals. Therefore, it would be safe to say that ayurvedic medicines are one of the safest and most effective ways of treatment of illnesses. Talking about the time it takes, if you want the illness to be removed from its very roots from your body, then it would take some time to do that. Unlike western biomedicine, Ayurveda doesn't just provide momentary relief from pain, it eradicates the very cause of it.
